Wedding Pictures and Leaving San Francisco on Day 6

A picture of me and my three sons taken in front of the church before the wedding.

A picture of my second son, his wife and two children taken in front of the church before the wedding.

Me, my third son and his son. Again taken before the wedding in front of the church.

A picture of my sons and grandsons except for the groom taken after the wedding.

A picture of my oldest son and his wife.

Time flies when your're having fun. Before we knew it, it was time to go home. Before boarding the plane I had a delicious bowl of clam chowder and some bread from the San Francisco Soup Company for lunch at the airport. Oh my. It was so good.

This is a picture of our small group taken in the San Francisco Airport before we boarded the plane home to North Carolina. I'm not in the picture because I'm taking the picture.
It was a good trip and we had a wonderful time.

California and Santa Cruz Day 5

We flew to California to attend my grandson's wedding. His first cousins wanted to be there for him. This is a picture of my oldest son, his family and new daughter-in-law, Mary
.

After the wedding we drove south to Santa Cruz to walk on the Boardwalk, ride some rides, eat cotton candy and take a dip in the Pacific Ocean.

California's San Francisco Piers on Day 4

The first thing we did at Pier 39 was buy lunch. Only parts of a crab sandwich, a crab cake and a french fry remained when I remembered to take a picture. My bad. Nothing remained a few moments after the picture.

I ran into a couple more grandchildren before lunch so they had lunch with us.

We saw Alcatraz in the distance. We'll do a tour during our next visit to California.

Usually there are a lot of sea lions here at Pier 39. Today only two remained as the others left a week ago to have pups. They will be back in August.

We did a little shopping at Pier 39 before we left. Jared found a cool California sweatshirt.

Oregon and California Day 3

We woke to a warm, sunny day in Grants Pass and drove north to Crater Lake after breakfast. The drive was awesome because Oregon is beautiful. Temperatures dropped and it started to rain as we got closer to the Park. The park ranger at the gate told us visibility would be poor because of dense fog. We were pleased when we arrived at the mountain top to find it wasn't too foggy to see the lake. Thankfully most of the snow had melted leaving patches here and there and none on the road. We braved the drizzle and rain to enjoy the view of the lake, island and rim to take pictures. After buying lunch in the gift shop's snack bar, we climbed the stairs to the second floor to sit and eat by a window with a view of the crater's lake.

The weather improved as we drove Interstate 5 south from Oregon back into California. We saw several spent volcanoes, California's volcanic legacy. This is a picture of Shasta Mountain, a huge mountain and former volcano, taken from a rest stop.

California and Oregon Day 2

We rode HWY 101 North through the Redwood Forest. The rain didn't stop us from taking a picture at THE BIG TREE. Difficult to imagine this tree is almost 2000 years old.

Later and farther north, we found another good photo opportunity. Someone had cut a road through a redwood tree. It was estimated that this tree is almost 800 year old.

Tonight we're in Oregon hoping for dry weather tomorrow.

California Day One

Three of my grandsons and I are in California for a wedding. We're all smiles in the Boeing 737. Well someone is catching a nap. Not much sleep for any of us last night.

We landed in San Francisco and rented a car. Here we are on HWY 101 looking at the Golden Gate Bridge.

2014 RSC June, Yellow Week 3 and Wishes Sew Along May and June Blocks

After a week of playing with yellow I'll add four 8.5" string blocks, four 5.5" cocoa mug blocks, and a 6.5" midget block to my collections. A green and yellow cotton knitted dishcloth made it into the picture. To see what others made with their yellow scraps, go here Saturday.

I'm participating in Fat Quarter shop's Wishes Sew Along. Pictured are May and June blocks. It's not to late to sew along. The blocks are not to difficult to make because the directions are excellent.

2014 RSC June Yellow Week 2 and Goodnight Irene Quilt Finished

After playing with yellow scraps this week, I'll add four scrappy happy houses, three 6.5" sampler midgets and a cotton knitted dishcloth to my collections. This dishcloth was knitted using leftover yarns, three colors.
To see what others made with their yellow scraps, go here Saturday morning.

I finished Goodnight Irene this week and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

In an attempt to use all my Amy Butler "Cameo" fatquarter bundle, I pieced scraps into the backing and a scrappy binding.

This close up shows the scrappy binding. The quilt is quilted with a loose free motion meander and white cotton thread. After a go in the washer and dryer it finished at 68" x 82". There was a lot of shrinkage. It's a wedding gift for a grandson and his finance. Their wedding is in two weeks. Goodnight Irene is currently making it's way to California via UPS.

2014 RSC June, Yellow, Week 1, and Full House Quilt Finish

June's Rainbow Scrap Challenge color is yellow. Though I love yellow, I don't have many yellow scraps. I went through ALL my scraps and pulled anything that had some yellow somewhere in the print. This week I'll add four 8.5" blocks, a 6.5" sampler midget block and a very very scrappy hot pad/pot holder to my collections. A partially knitted dishcloth made it into the picture. The yarn is Sugar'n Cream cotton yarn called LOVE. To see what others made with their yellow scraps this week, go here Saturday morning.

I finished my "Let's Book It" project. I used a Schnibbles pattern called FULL HOUSE and added a second border of 2" squares. Changing thread colors often, I stitched in the ditch around the doors, the roofs, the sides of the houses, the sashings and the borders.

The backing is a colorful batik fish print. I attached a hanging sleeve and it's hanging on the wall in my sewing area. It finished at 34" x 39". At some time I may remove the sleeve, give it a go in the washer and dryer and gift it for a baby quilt. Think I'll go through my books, patterns and magazines for another "Let's Book It" project.

Let's Book It Update

I added another border to my Full House and I'm not sure how I feel about it. May trim it a bit before adding my binding, leave a bit of color. Other than that, it's quilted and ready to bind. But I'm not sure whether to do a red or blue binding. Auditioning both in the picture.
I'll link this post to Sharon Vrooman's "Let's Book It" May post.
