Let's Book It April Progress

This month I finished the houses, the checkered rows, the sashing and the borders. The pattern is Schnibbles Full House. It's ready for a backing, batting, quilting, binding and hanging. Should finish up about 31" x 36". This has been fun and I look forward to seeing it finished. I'll be linking up with Vrooman's Quilts. To see the progress of others, go here.

2014 RSC, April, Purple, Week 4 and Bee Happy Finished

After playing with my purple scraps I'll add four 8.5" cat blocks, four 7" string blocks, four 60 degree string triangles, a purple hot pad/pot holder, and two 6.5" turquoise midgets. My purple scraps are stored away and I'm ready for another color. To see what others made with purple scraps this week, go here Saturday morning.

This morning I finished my BEE HAPPY Bee In My Bonnet sew along wall hanging or child's quilt. It's quilted with a loose free motion meander and some loop-de-loops thrown in for fun. The binding is a red floral. After a go in the washer and dryer it finished a soft 63.5" square.

Wilkes County Quilter's Scrappy Mystery Quilt, Clue 2

Instructions were to first sew my 2.5" x 6.5" pieces to my 5.5" x 6.5" pieces. Second step was to sew my 4.5" x 7.5" pieces to the two piece units. Third step was to sew my 3.5" x 10.5" pieces to the three piece units. I now have thirty 10.5" square blocks. Last instructions were, "DO NOT SQUARE UP BLOCKS YET". Whew. Finished clue 2 just in time. Tonight we get clue 3 at out monthly meeting. I have no idea where this mystery quilt is going.

2014 RSC, April, Purple, Week 3

A busy Easter weekend and not a lot of purple fabric fun, but lots of food, fun, family and spring weather. A grand daughter and I made lots of colorful crochet five petal flowers this weekend. She took hers home. I crocheted simple hearts using the magic ring method after she left. Most were made with scrap yarn left over from other projects. She wants to learn to crochet hearts next visit. We used You Tube how to video clips to learn.
Pictured are four 5.5" purple mug blocks, a purple cotton yarn dishcloth and the flowers and hearts that I crocheted. I'm not sure what I'll do with the flowers and hearts, but currently they are in a little amber glass basket on the coffee table. To see what others made with their purple scraps, go here.
I'm behind making all the scrappy purple blocks I had planned this month.. I'll catch up in May as it is a five week month.

Scottie Dog and Three Scrappy Batik Mug Rugs

Using graph paper I shaded in squares and half square triangles to create the image of a Scottie Dog. Then I cut 2" squares of black cotton fabric for the dog and tiny black stars on white cotton fabric for the background. To make the block larger I sewed strips of the background fabric to each side, the bottom and top to make a 12" square. The binding is white scrolls on black cotton fabric. It's quilted with a dense free motion meander, white thread on the background and black thread on the Scottie Dog. A crochet flower and a crochet heart were slipped over a couple buttons to complete the little table topper/wall hanging. The centers of the flower and heart act like button holes making them easily changed/replaced with other crochet pieces. They were made using some YouTube "how to crochet" video clips. Just type in "how to crochet a flower" or "how to crochet a heart", etc. to view lots of "how to" video clips.
Many people in blog land are making and posting picture of mug rugs. I felt like I had to make some, too. It didn't take long to make these colorful 7" x 10" mini quilts/mug rugs with skinny batik scraps and trimmings.

Triangle Quilt Along Progress

Much of this week has been spent piecing my triangle quilt quilt top. Another day or so and it will be a quilt top. Not sure how to even up the sides correctly, but I imagine there will be suggestions/instructions this week. Thankfully, I didn't prewash the fabrics and I'm using lots of  "Best Press" and lots of pins.

2014 Rainbow Scrap Challenge, April, Purple, Week 1 and Quilty Fun Quilt Top Progress

April's RSC color is purple. Pictured are three 8.5" scrappy string blocks to go with one I made last year. A yellow cotton knitted dishcloth made it into the picture. To see what other's made with their purple scraps go here.

Finished piecing my scrappy Quilty Fun 67.5"x 67.5" Be Happy quilt top this morning. Went with four different floral fabrics for a 6.5" fun border. The pattern suggests a scrappy binding but I think I'll use a red floral fabric to tie everything together.
