Zombie Quilt

This Zombie themed quilt is for a grandchild. He wanted zombie colors. Especially green. I used Mary Johnson's Quick Strippie quilt pattern found here. It's a good pattern for a focal fabric like this one.

A closeup to show fabric and quilting detail.

The backing is more Zombie themed fabric.

And a closeup of the back. It's quilted with horizontal wavy lines using a walking foot. After a go in the washer and dryer it finished up to be a soft 39.5" x 52".

2013 RSC November, Brown, Week 4, and a Baby Quilt Finish

After playing with some brown scraps, I'll add two 8.5" blocks and two knitted dishcloths to my collections. Lucky me. I had enough of the yummy variegated yellow yarn to make this second yellow dishcloth.
Though I have more brown scraps, I decided to start sewing together some of the blocks I've made this year during the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
To see what others made with their brown scraps this week, go here.

I didn't want my sweet Quilty Habit Lantern Sew Along baby quilt top to be a UFO for long ... so I pulled some of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge 8.5" blocks to sew into a backing.

Look at that backing. Got carried away with those 8.5" blocks. Oh well. I like both sides. This little number is quilted with a loose free motion meander and bound with a bright lime green binding. After a go in the washer and dryer, this soft little donation baby quilt finished at 37" x 38".

Puzzle Quilt

I blogged about the center of this batik puzzle quilt in an earlier post. I used this pattern. It seemed a little small. So I added a few borders to make it larger. My quilting friend, Sharon Vrooman, suggested an inner light border and a darker outer border. Good idea! Now it looks like a framed puzzle.

The backing and the binding is pieced using batik fabrics and strips from my scraps and stash. Actually, everything in this quilt came from stash. It's quilted with a loose meandering free motion pattern and finished at 37" x 49.5".
Because it's going to be a wall hanging for a little while, it hasn't made a round in the washer and dryer. Later I'll wash and gift or donate this little girl friendly baby quilt.

Beaquilter Sampler Sew Along Finished Quilt

All finished and I like it! A guy friendly quilt, I think. It was made with scraps and yardage from the "Stitch In Color" collection. I didn't make the last two blocks Bea posted in her sew along. Instead I sewed together thirty-six 2.5" squares cut from small scraps to make a block. And I used a block made by a friend for the 12'th block..
It's quilted with meandering free motion and the binding is scrappy.

The back is pieced with fabric left over from making the front. I may have enough scraps left to make a baby quilt next year.

For interest I sewed a row of scrappy blocks into the backing. After a go in the washer and dryer, this one finished at 50" x 63.5". Thanks Bea.

2013 RSC November, Brown, Week 3

It's been a busy week. My Beaquilter Sampler Sew Along quilt top and back are pieced and ready to sandwich and quilt. Hopefully I'll finish that one next week.
After another week I'll add three more 8.5" blocks to my collection. Also some string 60 degree triangles. Forgot to make some with my black, gray and white scraps last month. A knitted yellow dishcloth make it into the picture.

2013 RSC, November, Brown, Week 2

Been a slow week. Still, I did some sewing. I'll add a couple Crossroads blocks to my collection. Forgot to make one in black and gray last month. Now I have eleven blocks. I'll make Crossroads blocks another year. Another happy, scrappy house block for that collection. Now I have 21 houses. I'll make house blocks another year, too.
I won a mini charm pack of Double Chocolate from Fabrics N Quilts! I used all of them to make a couple beautiful pot holders for Christmas presents. Whoever gets them will be very happy.
A few knitted dishcloths make it into the picture. Love those yarns.
Now to make some apples for the Fat Quarter Shop Quilty Fun sew along. The sew along button is on the side of my blog.
I have all my fabrics chosen and put aside for Bonnie Hunter's new Mystery Quilt. First clue is day after Thanksgiving. I'm going to make her smaller, 75"x 75" version.

Fabrics N Quilts' Scrap Quilt Challenge Grand Prize!

A few months ago, I entered a scrap quilt I made earlier this year in Fabrics N Quilts' "Scrap Quilt Challenge." The Grand Prize was a $25 Gift Certificate plus a prize pack of goodies. I won the drawing! Last week I used the gift certificate toward the purchase of some fabric. My order arrived today. That was quick. And WOW. Look at all the goodies Shannon sent along with my beautiful fabric order. She sent me quilt pattern books, individual quilt patterns, CUTE blue stork scissors on a retractable cord that can clip on your collar or sweater, an assortment of sewing machine needles, Aurifil thread, embroidery thread, a seam ripper, a Ruby Beholder, a Double Chocolate mini charm pack, and some quilt labels. I was blown away! I love all of it! Can't wait to play with all my new things. Thank you Shannon and Fabrics N Quilts.
